What is Swsi Moodle?
Swsi Moodle is a TAFE NSW, South Western Sydney Institute’s (SWSi) Moodle app. You can Used SWSi Moodle to access all your course resources and to TAFE NSW, South Western Sydney Institute’s (SWSi) Moodle app.
Use the Swsi Moodle to gain access to all your course resources, activities and assessments. SWSi Moodle also allows you to contact your teacher and fellow students. The course you are enrolling in will not be able to use the Swsi Moodle at present. You can contact your teacher for more information and assistance.
Swsi Moodle Login
To login to Swsi Moodle you must first log in to TAFE NSW Portal and you will be able to login to Swsi Moodle. You can also login to Swsi Moodle using the steps below.
- First Open this webpage link swsi.moodle.tafensw.edu.au.
- Enter your Portal Username and Portal Password in the password field.
- You have to click on the ‘Remember username’ option.
- Last click on the ‘Login‘ button.
Note: All Cookies must be enabled in your browser and Some courses may allow guest access.

Have you paid your fees?
If you can’t access student e-services like Moodle, it may be that you’re not up to date with your course payments. Please go to the student portal at swsi-tafensw.libguides.com to pay. If you have unpaid fees on completion of your course, you will not receive a testamur certificate.
Are you having trouble logging into Moodle?
- Please ensure that all your details and enrollment are completed in the Student Portal.
- You must use your DEC Portal details to access e.g. john.maheta.
- If you are unable to login and your enrollment / details on student enrollment are complete, then contact the Customer Support Office between 9:00 am to 5:30 pm by calling 13 SWSi (13 7974).
- Outside of business hours, contact a librarian at 02 9780 5644 or 02 9682 0311 for help resetting your password.

You can use the eResource Discovery Service to find journal, magazine and newspaper guide and you can also use it to access eBooks and online.

Click on eResources. - Step 3
Login with your TAFE username and password in the field. - Step 4
To search across all the databases, type your keywords into the search box. - Step 5
Use quotation marks to find a line, e.g. play in early childhood. Use the word and to combine two or more concepts so they appear in all your search results, e.g. play and toddlers. - Step 6
Choose an index, and you can search by keyword, title or author. - Step 7

Communicate in Swsi Moodle
You can communicate with your teacher and fellow students in Moodle by sending and receiving private messages. This is in addition to receiving notifications about assignments, forum discussions, etc.
New messages are highlighte with number in the message icon. The red number indicates how many people have sent new messages, not the actual number of new messages.
Communicate in Swsi Moodle – Reply or Send message
You can communicate with your teacher and fellow students within the Moodle by sending and receiving private messages. This is in addition to receiving notifications about assignments, forum discussions, etc.

You can send a message to your teacher and other student.
- Click on the Message icon to see your messages.
- Click View All at the bottom of the window to view the messaging drawer, divided into starred messages, group messages, and private messages.
- You have a Personal space for draft messages.
- At the bottom of the window, you can click into Write a message to compose a message.
To Reply to a message
- Click on the message to open it.
- Type your reply in the Write a message window.
- Click on the arrow icon to send the message.
- Messages can be deleted by clicking on them. Ensure they are selected (with a visible checkmark).
- Click the trash at the bottom of the Messaging Drawer.
Search box and Send message
- Use the Search box to search for people and messages.
- Contacts and contact requests can be accessed from the contacts link.
- Click the cog icon to display privacy settings, notification preferences and, in general, the option to press enter to send messages.
How to Participate in forums in Swsi Moodle?
You may be required to post your thoughts or questions to a forum in your Course. Before using the forum, refer to the links in the Technology Management Support Policy so that you understand your rights and responsibilities around online user behaviour.
Make sure your communication is respectful and sensitive to all people. Course forums can be found under the Course Essentials tab.
To post to a Course forum
- Click on the Add a new discussion topic button, On the next screen.
- Add a discussion subject and type in your message. You can use the formatting buttons, create a link, add images etc.
- Click on the Post to forum button.
- You will have a 30 minute change before your post goes live.
You can only edit your own posts within 30 minutes of posting.
- Select and click on the discussion topic you wish to edit, On the next screen.
- Click on Edit.
- Review your post.
- Click on Save changes when finished.
- To remove your post completely, select Delete in instead of Edit.
To reply to a post
- Select and click on a discussion topic, On the next screen.
- Click on Reply.
- In the Message box – type in your response.
- Click on the Submit button.

Swsi Moodle FAQ
How do I reserve an item?
If the item you want to borrow is on loan, you can reserve it. You will be contacted once the item is available. This is a free service.
You can reserve an item
- Online via the TAFE NSW Library Catalogue (TAFEcat).
- You will need your TAFEcard barcode number and your library PIN to hold on using TAFEcat.
- You can ask library staff to set up your PIN, or contact us on LibChat.
- By email or chat using the Ask a Librarian service – tafensw-au.libanswers.com.
- In person or by calling your local TAFE NSW library.
Can I borrow if I have fines?
No – you must pay all outstanding penalty fees (and return all overdue items) before you can borrow again.
If you have outstanding fees on your record, please contact the campus library you borrowed from. Staff will explain what you need to do to pay them.
TAFE NSW statements, certificates or diplomas, result notices or employer reports will not be issued, or will be available for online viewing until all library items have been returned and / or a fee has been paid.
