Click the gear icon near the top right corner.
Select ‘Backup’ from the drop-down list. - Full backups of all your content
For a partial backup of selected items, skip this step.
Click Jump to the final step to initiate a full backup of all content.
Leave IMS Common Cartridge 1.1 unchecked.
This would only be used if you were moving your Moodle content into another learning management system. - Partial backups of selected items
Uncheck the items you do not want to be included in your backup and click Next. - Schema Settings
Deselect any activities you do not wish to backup and then click Next. - Confirmation and Review
This step walks you through what is being backed up.
Once you have confirmed what is included in the backup, click ‘Perform backup’.
You will see a progress indicator and then a confirmation message if your backup was successful.
How to Restore a Moodle Course
- Open the main course page where you want to have the backup restored.
- Click the gear icon and choose Restore.
- Find your backup sorted by date created and click Restore beside it.
- It would show you a confirmation page with backup details and settings.
- Scroll down to the bottom and click Continue.
- Under Restore into this course, choose the required restore option and Continue.
- Leave the default options checked and click Next.
- On the next page, you can customize and uncheck what you don’t want to include from your other course.
- Scroll down and click Next.
- On the final review page, click Perform Restore.
- Once successfully restored click Continue.
Space for a course scheduled to teach on Moodle
- Moodle course spaces are created automatically for all scheduled sections that have an instructor assigned.
- The course spaces begin appearing approximately 8 weeks before a new semester begins, roughly when registration opens for the new semester.
- An email notification is sent to the instructor’s email address when the Moodle space is available.

How long do students have access to Moodle Space?
- Moodle spaces are hidden from students the Friday before a new semester begins.
- Faculty members have access to Moodle spaces for 4 weeks after the final exam period ends to provide ample time to submit grades and make backups.
- Faculty members who are enrolled in the Moodle Community will also receive reminders by email.
- To enroll yourself, log in with your employee ID and PIN, locate the course administration block and click on the Community site and click Enrol me in this course.
